Dr. Jalal Hamedi has been with NMSU-C/SENMC since 2013 and is currently the chair of the social sciences department. He has been teaching sociology/psychology and occasionally has taught anthropology and philosophy. Currently, Dr. Hamedi is a part of the Diversity Committee and co-chairs the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. He is a member of the Faculty Senate, a member of the Advisory Committee from the Carlsbad library, and a member of the Pantry Assistance Program. He was also appointed to be a member of the Roush Award committee and he also was the recipient of the Roush award in 2018. Dr. Hamedi is known for helping out during any college or campus events. A professor at Al‑Isra University in Jordan and an expert in Islamic law and law, he holds two doctorates in legal studies and comparative jurisprudence. He has extensive academic and administrative experience, having held numerous posts at universities in Yemen and Jordan, including department chair and membership on quality and accreditation committees. He also previously served as vice president for academic affairs at the University of Science and Technology in Yemen. He has supervised and examined dozens of theses, and his scholarly output includes more than 75 peer‑reviewed research papers and 15 academic books. Dr. Mourhat shares her knowledge and passion for law and justice with students as she teaches a variety of courses, including Criminal Law, Criminal Courts & Procedure, Introduction to Criminal Justice, the American Law Enforcement System, and the Corrections System.
Dr. Mourhat serves as the advisor for the Beta Alpha Delta Chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association (ACJA)/SENMC Chapter. In addition to her campus leadership and committee service, she is deeply engaged in the community. Dr. Mourhat serves as Chairwoman of the Carlsbad Police Department Advisory Board, a Judge for the Eddy County Teen Court, and a member of the Legal Redress and Resolution Committees for the Eddy County NAACP.
Dr. Mourhat is dedicated to preparing students for future success while working on making a difference both at the college and beyond.
Prof. Dr. Jamil Al-Nouma
Professor of engineering
Dr. Jamil Al-Nouman is a professor of engineering in the science and engineering department. Dr. Al-Nouman is originally from Yemen and has been with NMSUC/SENMC since 2008. He graduated with his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Sana’a University in 1995. In 2002 he graduated with his master’s degree in technology. In 2003 he graduated with his master’s degree in industrial engineering. In 2012, he graduated with both a master’s degree in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering. His four previous graduations were from New Mexico State University.
At present Dr. Al-Nouman is on the Assessment Committee and the Grants Services Committee. In 2019, he received the Donald C Roush Award for teaching excellence
